PSG Overcomes Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Secure Trophee des Champions Super Cup in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now claimed the season-opening trophy on fourteen separate occasions.

The Parisian giants needed a dramatic leveler followed by a perfect penalty shootout to get past their arch-rivals in the Gulf and secure a fourth straight French Super Cup title.

The European champions seemed to be coasting towards a comfortable win in the showdown featuring the French league champions and the French Cup holders after Ousmane Dembele opened the scoring in the opening stages.

Yet, the southern French side struck two times in the closing moments to take a shock advantage. First, the English forward scored from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable twist of events, Goncalo Ramos snatched a vital leveler in the dying moments to force the match into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the hero, saving decisive kicks from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and the young talent all converted successfully for PSG to complete a 4-1 shootout victory.

Now 14-time champions Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now won this competition for the twelfth time in the last 13 years.
